Entrepreneurship is about fooling your perception of reality

When I passed out from college, I was quite directionless of which way to head. There was very little of plans and most importantly there wasn’t clarity of what i wanted to be. All i knew i want to make mark of myself in this world. As time went on, i got introduced to the idea of Entrepreneurship and these perspectives where a collection of experiences & insights from friends & organisations i have met. They have had inspired me to an extent that it did make a difference to the way i saw things. I have written about these companies in 10 innovative start-ups from Kerala.
Coming from a middle class family where high marks & huge salaries hold the key to existence and in my case having no earning member, made things quite difficult for me. Though this was the reality, it did not stop me from being foolish enough to start-up my first company. Though even while doing that, I was just flowing with that thought of foolishness. But it did pay me off, we had break even within 6 months and product did wonders for the company but ill fate that i finally had to move out from that org. Because i thought i had to do something bigger. And that’s how the idea of setting up India’s first web tv was born, though everyone around me did not consider it to be viable model I did cross all that logic to launch Indiavibes.
Now this is where the tricky part is, entrepreneurship is about crossing those hard realities out there. You need to fool your own perception of reality if you want to crack the code. There are situations where you quite feel that “is it really possible??”. Now while this question comes if you follow the path of your hard core logic & reality , then you will be soon quitters. Win or fail does not matter here but either way, either results the idea is it should be BIG !
Big enough success so that others will follow you or Big enough failure that you could master it the next time or probably just quit and go out & preach people about “Entrepreneurship” !

The First thing an Entreprenuer need to overcome – Ideation

Ideation

So what’s that million dollar idea that’s gonna change everything ! One of the first questions every wanna be Entrepreneurs encounter. They go in search of that one idea, some read about possible business ideas & some asks other people about hot ideas that can make a buck. But the real answer can only be born out of exploration & that too from our minds ! It can happen anytime, while we are talking with someone, while having sleep, while having sex, while having shower. the instances are also somewhat special,at least for the origin(the guy i.e). My first start-up Smiley took seed in my Co-founder’s heads while he was sleeping, from then on we both had sleepless nights until it became reality 2 months after the incident !

So how does it happen or work ? Well, you just need to identify your strengths & your passion. that’s where it begins ! Mostly,we know what we need to do it’s just the final packing that need’s to be done. This will take some time & a lot of research , a little of networking too ! And when you have gathered enough information , your mind processes all of that to give you your final idea.

But the first part is giving it top priority & a mental decision that you are going to invest your heart & brains on whatever final idea you cook up too ! Our mind is like a machine which responds to our brain waves, you need to convince yourself that you want to do it-whatever come ! That decision does matter to start the first step of Ideation.

Happy Ideation people ! God Bless !

Confessions of an Entrepreneur Part II

April 2009,Bangalore: So me & benjith had our initial project report which needed to be supported by fund. Now,I had very less of though running in my mind in terms of planning baptism of our dream. I went along with Benjith to both our close colleagues/friends seeking some help in terms of the required capital. It is during this period I realized one very important thing of Life & that is when you need help, all these social creatures that otherwise swing around our shoulders are all experts in one act which can be termed as the “Vanishing Act”.

But then both of us where big headed Bastards,we never wanted to give up on what we planned, come what may ! Unlike my partner’s family,my parents were not all that game with the idea of me starting my own business ! I cant complaint, after being from a normal middle class backgrounds where no one has a business background and more importantly I am a qualified Engineer which required/demanded me to act my breed,as of an engineer that is ! But having throughly studied my course,I knew that wasn’t my cup of tea.

Though my family wasn’t all that encouraging in my decision,I loved the feeling of “proving them all wrong one day” ! And that sweet feeling is like the greatest pleasure you can get that I could feel it even when nothing happened ! And trust me I decided to go ahead not because I had atmost faith my business plan but only because I decided to stand by decision of not following the conventional and may be that’s the reason our company had the tagline ” Conventionally Progressive” ! I know ! You must be thinking what I smoke ! Such an Irony Life is….

So then after having days spend behind finding capital in Bangalore we were so successful in getting screwed that we just wanted gt back home ! So we decided to get back to Cochin and may be find some way out ! Although one thing was decided, that we are doing it !

May be it was the city, though Cochin is more like an metro Lifestyle, people here has only one Agenda “to be better than your counterpart” but that’s one thing that changed in me in the limited period i stayed in Bangalore ! I was such an idiot not to understand that in Life the only person we need to outbeat is simply ourselves ! Just my Mantra changed and now it’s all about ” being better than what you were yesterday” ! I thank the garden city for that one lesson !

And it continues….

10 symptoms of Entrepreneur Flu!

188192NSUR_wLife gives us lot of options when it comes to choosing the direction ahead. As a teenager you are told by your parents that work hard and get a good job. No one ever asks you to follow your Dream and become what we probably want to be. And may be for this reason we never think of anything more than a job with a 5 figure pay slip and all that corporate mumbo-jumbo. But then in between all this, there are people who start thinking of something of their own. Due to circumstances they just keep it buried somewhere inside their mind! But what’s the use of saying that we’re independent and a social being if we are to change according to our circumstances. Very few tread the path of becoming an entrepreneur. For me it happened by itself because I knew what I am capable of and didn’t want to waste my resources working for someone else.  But one thing I learned and wish to share to everyone is that you will never get to your dream until you want it like anything. It’s like our natural reflexes; say if we are drowning in water we would fight for air till the very end. May be this is where most of them go wrong. Being an entrepreneur should never be your choice, it should be your compassion and your only walk in Life. Now the question is do you have that compassion in you. If the underneath mentioned points strike you somewhere I guess we would have our answer for that.

  • You have very good confidence on your skills and resources that you know that if you could give a good strike you can find the gold.
  • Your inner voice tells you that you are more than what is now.
  • You see things around you and have the gut feeling that you can do the same much better than anyone.
  • You are a great social networker and you know where to find the right team.
  • You work 24/7 earning a lot of money and still not happy with what you have.
  • You are bankrupt and still hesitate to work somewhere.(LOL..happened to me)
  • You have sleepless nights thinking about your idea and how it can work.
  • You are probably lazy to get to office on time and wish you had one of your own.(LOL..sometimes even laziness works)
  • You wish to own BMW’s Or Ferrari’s while you’re just driving a moped now.
  • You wish to make a difference to your life and to the lives of the people around you.
  • You don’t know the spelling of the word “Entrepreneur” and even write  11 points though you planned only 10 LOL !

Cheers to Life !
