Archana Kavi sure knows to cast spell on audience with her eyes and that innocent smile but her ticket to Neelathamara as kunjumallu also had one very important factor,that was the strong resemblance to Ambika,the kunjumallu of the first Neelathamara.
Ah,she’s always been God’s favorite throughout her Life. But then its truly an amazing aspect of how “Timing” is important in everyone’s Life. Archana never aspired to be an actress,she wanted to be a journalist like her father @Josekavi. She was a VJ for more than a year in a channel which never made much of a mark,she did a couple of Ad’s but the call from Lal sir came after her album with Asif Ali got out. She was supposed to debut in a small role for another mallu movie. I still remember the first time she went for auditions, Lal sir’s daughters called her “Achu” just when she got in.(they used to watch Bloody Love-where Archana portrays herself as a Love Guru). So it’s all about “Timing” & God’s blessings i think. But then for her i would say its well deserved.She’s like the heavy lifting champion of talent with the right mix of confidence & will.
And she’s still the same female who loves to cook to have junk food.Though now she’s busy shooting for her next movie “Mummy n Me” at cutticanam,she can’t resist talking to her fans. She had somehow found a computer between the shoot and this was her tweet :

It is said that stars die off eventually and sometimes they die-off right after they’re born(Now don’t ask me who said that …LOL).Yes Indiavision,the youth channel had a similar story. i am not sure how many of you may have heard of such a television channel. Yes was different ! Not just for the sake of saying, you could watch my youtube videos and you will know what i mean. The team YES consisted of hardly 30 professionals and all of them had one thing in common-campassion towards what they’re doing. i would bet that there would’nt have been such a team ever created in any other television entities. More than a job, we all were like a family but a family unguided or may be one with a lack of leadership or vision. It’s hard to explain what went wrong but i would like to talk more on what went right.
i had never dreamt of having my hands on such a sphere even in my wildest imagination but then somehow it happned that one day i found myself at the Indiavision studio for audition as a VJ. The audition if i am right was taken by Sajith Lakshman a.k.a the ‘chief’ guy and everything went according to he script then on. i was selected by the panel which were the then program heads Mr.Prakash menon and Anil ayroor. From there on i was made to feel that televisoin is where i belong. Anyway YES did make its own cult that by the time we had our soft launch other telecvisoin channel’s immediately started to copy the layout,the style, the edit pattern to even the camera frames.
Anyway YES was’nt all that a failure for people involved with it. Asif Ali(RITU fame) & Archana Kavi(Neelathamara fame) did make their career out of it.i very much miss the old days with YES and wish those days will be back some day.Asif,Me n Archana was the “3A’s” of YES(like “3idiots”..LOL).VJ Rakesh now RJ Rakesh at club FM,VJ Andrine now writing this blog that you are reading..LOL are some other names that could be accounted.
i always wanted to share the tales of “Asif Ali” & now that i have a way to do it i must say how happy i am for him. When i met him,he was doing 1′st year BBA at Marian college.You would rarely meet guys with such strong will and strong dreams and fortunately i had the honor to meet such a person. i was already in YES as a VJ when my friend Ajeesh introduced me to Asif who would then very openly tell anyone that he wanted to be an actor. People never talk out about their dreams because they’re scared. Asif was’nt among them;he knew that saying it out openly only make it a step closer to his dream.His friends in college would mock him when he said that his movie would release is Ernakulam Sarita theatre and i was very suprised to see this guy still say it loud and open. But see the power of dreams,his first movie-Ritu was released at Saritha theatre.
God’s grace he will be bigger than he want to be ! “Insha Alla” as he would say.
Asif was the program producer and VJ of a very unique and exciting program called “BULB”. The shoot process was very interesting that we’ll have a million stories to tell if anyone among our crew starts to speak about this program. it was one of the masterpieces tha YES created.
Unlike Asif, Archana was’nt all that convinced about her inner actor ! she never had the plan to be a part of the fil fraternity. she was just a normal “paagal si ladki” as she would then say.But fate and yes, some of her decisions that she took simply turned Life upside down.
Archana was the Love guru and her program “Bloody Love” was quite a hit.(i know you would be thinking aobut the program names we come up with…LOL…Bulb..now Bloody Love…well ask our RD that ! He used to name the programes.)
Me a.k.a Vj Andy was the Gup-Shup guy at “Cocktail”,where we used to talk about anything under the sky.Sajith a.k.a “The Chief” was the producer of the program and like Bulb the shoot process is always fun here. Find out…

You got be really lucky to meet a person of such energy and divinity that can even arise your spirits and then you got be really honored to have someone so as a friend. Luckily or unluckily I had that honor a couple of years back when my classmate and friend Neil Gonsalves introduced her to me. She was unlike the females I have met, was trying to be independent, had dreams and had the will to give it a try, which is something not everyone has. And the very reason we met too was to give a try to her long lived dream of becoming a RJ (have you heard her voice..LOL !). Anyway I had admired her for the courage she took in her decisions to have chosen to study in Ramapuram away from her sweet parents, away from her comforts. And then coming to Ernakulam every weekend to keep her dreams alive, trusting in God, trusting herself. She was trying to prove something I guess, maybe she has proved it too.
Though we had some radio auditions done, it never worked out and so we moved out to the next one-Television. Yes Indiavision was then an upcoming youth channel and I knew she could bring her true self there and so we gave it a try. Thus Archana Kavi,the Love Guru was born through “Bloody Love” ! Strange name na ? Perfect for her instincts though! LOL ! Ok. We were all a team then. We could call ourselves as “”THE THREE A’s”"- Archana Kavi,Asif Ali n Andrine Mendez(Me). It was hell of a team we had.
The next important thing that changed things for her was the photo shoot we had for a magazine cover with Aneesh Upasana.It was a part of her “Bloody Love” episode, just the normal stuff but the end result was really out of the unexpected. Her photos had come simultaneously in two leading magazines(Manorama,Mangalam) both in the same week(God’s favorite Girl you see !).
The days ahead was filled with phone calls from Film fraternity and from advertisement agencies. All of a sudden the wanted to be RJ turned VJ now become the most wanted model. She have done couple of good Ad’s including Mathrubumi Health magazine, Red Chillies Salwars,G-Tec, and the best one was Grand Kerala shopping festival. Last year you might have seen big fluxes and posters of Grand Kerala Shopping festival and even this year the same photos has been used by them(ADS).
The next big thing was the music album she did with our upcoming super star Asif Ali-naming “HIMAMAZHAYIL”.The album was directed by Sabu Aditya,who referred archana’s pretty face to Lal Jose(WOW…See I told you she was God’s favorite).
From there what happened is something we all know now. But the journey was’nt all that easy for her. She completed her BBA and being away from her family, all this wasn’t all that creamy and easy. But as I said all credits to her WILL POWER and the DECISIONS she made and, yes, her family is like the most awesome family anyone could have. Jose Kavi,her father is probably the nicest person on earth after Santa Claus and Rossamma Jose, her mom is like the most caring mom anyone could ever dream of. They stood by their daughter when it was most required and they still are rock solid, believe me on that.(God’s favorite Kid u c..Nothing more to say)
Her life like all of us was filled with confusions, like for e.g she was supposed to do a role in “Patanathil Bootham” which for some good reason she opted out and we now know it was for something bigger. You will be surprised to know that her hobbies are cooking, housekeeping and stuff(what the &^*^ ?? i know..was hard for me to believe too). There is a lot to say about her like the time she had trying to learn Malayalam and the blunders that came out of her mouth..Ahh ! you could witness some of those in her Bloody Love videos available on Youtube.
After Neelathamara she’s reported to do a equally important role like in her first movie with Mohanlal starer ‘Mummy and me’ along side of Urvashi,Mukesh,kunchacko bobban. So we all ready to fall in love with kunjumallu again in her new ‘avaatar’ -”Jewel”(her name in the new movie).
But behind every great victory lies few battles that are common to all of us and yes Archana Kavi was no different(ya..just that she was God’s favorite) but there is an important thing we all can save for a thought that what is it that makes the difference,only one answer – Simply your decisions & your Trust in yourself ! That’s Archana kavi a.k.a Kunjumallu for you…..

Now seeing the posters of Lal Jose’s next flick one would imagine the girl as one who has been in the circle but believe me Archana kavi is nowhere near. She portrays a very calm and silent girl or much better said the best adjective I might use would be her name ‘ kunjumallu’, which itself has all the sweetness that can make you diabetic. Anyway the point is the character that she plays has absolutely nothing to do with what she really is. Trust me! Spent 20mintues with her and you will know and as we sat down over a coffee to pen down something she almost eat my brains. No offense! But Archana is the kind of female that could very easily prove that “Kid! You aren’t nothing “… you will never find so much energy.Anyway the more I talk it might look like I am buttering her for our next interview though I would love one more sitting..

Well… I love irritating people who are close to me… have you ever tried it??? It’s a lot of fun! He.. he. apart from that I love cooking… most of the people don’t believe that.. i don’t know why? My friends call me “house hold gal next door”… though I am really a lazy bum!
That’s a shocker? So this is what you used to do in your spare time?
I told u.. I am a lazy bum… ‘mood ki baat hai’… my hindi is still good!
So how did you end up here with movies and stuff?
See I totally believe that I am God’s favorite child! I never wanted to be an actress… i was doing my BBA in kottayam… and I really wanted 2 do something, I tried getting into radio as a RJ but then I ended up being a VJ and from there my take off as an actress…
So no hard fight? Just a walk in the park ?
the funny part is that so many people die to be where I am now… but in my case I never wanted to be here… it came as a blessing… though it wasn’t a walk in a park…Cinema is never a walk in a park… there was a lot of emotional stress involved in it.. but at the end i would like 2 say- I AM BLESSED!

Ahhh..tricky questions ah. I am just another (extra)ordinary gal… hehe the one thing I miss is my family.. and my mom made food…
Ok so how was your transition to kunjumallu for ‘Neelathamara’ ?
Ahh now that’s the million dollar question. Kunjumallu is like my exact opposite which I thought would be difficult. But then I would like to thank my DAD.. he was very particular about me n my bro should be ordinary malayalee kids… it was a rule at home that we speak in malayalam… and more over I have seen my aunts and amma do all kunjamallu job… so I was very much aware of it… though there was no practical knowledge …
