After a wildly successful run in 2010, TechSparks, the product tech startup showcase event conducted by online portal YourStory supported by CNBC TV18 Young Turks, is back again this year, in a much bigger format.
TechSparks 2010, presented by Microsoft BizSpark and Canaan Partners, was conducted in Bangalore and saw registration from more than 200 product tech startups from across the country. Designed to turn the spotlight on the best product tech companies in India, TechSparks 2010 enjoyed tremendous patronage in the startup ecosystem. The top 20 startups that presented during the grand finale were selected using an internationally-renowned rating mechanism called G/Score, brought to India for the first time by the Guidewire Group in association with YourStory. It may be recalled that the previous edition, TechSparks 2010, was referred to as “India’s biggest product technology startup showcase” by a number of media outlets.
This year, TechSparks has grown into a multi-city series, with events to be held in Cochin, Chennai, Pune and New Delhi with the support of its VC partner, Sequoia Capital.
Shailendra Singh, Managing Director, Sequoia Capital, said “We’re extremely excited about the opportunity that TechSparks offers. Product tech startups are faced with the vicious circle of funding and gaining traction, where one can’t occur without the other and vice versa. We’d like to help in that respect. And with $600 million to deploy, I think that we’re in a superb position to harness the product tech wave. We’re looking forward to meeting the entrepreneurs and being exposed to some of the best ideas in the country.”
Entries are already being accepted for TechSparks 2011. Startups registering for TechSparks will also receive invites to the by-invitation-only TechSparks Regional RoundTables (RRTs), a city-centric mini-event designed for startups to network with VCs and corporates. The RRTs will be conducted in Cochin, Chennai, Delhi and Pune during the months of May, June and July 2011. The grand finale, featuring the top 20 tech startups among all the entries received, is scheduled for August 2011.
So, it looks like exciting times are here for product tech startups. Get to know us better and see what last year’s TechSparks winners have to say here.
